The Heart Behind Honey Hair Co.

Honey Hair Co. was built on legacy, love, and the belief that a salon should feel like home.

A man with short dark hair, wearing a light-colored short-sleeved shirt and a wristwatch, is sitting and reading a newspaper. The background appears to be a wooden wall, and there are reflections and small light spots on the photograph.

My inspiration started with my family…

A woman giving a man a haircut in a salon or barbershop. The man is smiling and wearing a black cape with a bee logo. The woman is smiling while holding scissors and a comb. There are glass bottles and a framed picture in the background.
A woman helping a young girl with her hair in a salon, with the girl smiling and wearing a colorful floral and animal print cape.

My grandfather Herm Schrauben Jr and his brother Kenny, who owned a barbershop in downtown Portland, and their brother Jerry, who ran his own shop just a few blocks away. My Aunt Cheryl still owns and operates 88 Mane St. in Lansing, where I worked for the last 10 years. And my mom? She began her career at Stillman’s before creating a warm, welcoming in-home salon—where clients quickly became friends and friends became family.

That spirit is the foundation of Honey Hair Co. I wanted to create a space where everyone who walks through the doors feels that same sense of belonging my mom gave to every person in her chair.

But Honey Hair Co. isn’t just a tribute to my roots—it’s also a space for growth. I dreamed of building an inviting home for other local stylists and beauty professionals—a place where they could plant their own roots, build their businesses, and truly make it their own. This build has opened doors for so many talented entrepreneurs in our small town, and watching this community bloom has been the most rewarding part of all.

And none of it would have been possible without my parents, whose steady support and hands-on help guided me through every step of this journey.

Honey Hair Co. is more than a salon. It’s a legacy. A launchpad. A love letter to family, community, and the power of creating something meaningful together.
